"Lifetime" here isn't a fixed number of years; it means the coverage lasts for as long as you own your home, which is why it can outlast every other warranty on the house. "Limited" means the protection is strongest in the early years and narrows over time, and that it covers manufacturing defects in the shingles themselves — not installation mistakes or storm damage, which are handled separately. It's the headline promise on the brochure, and knowing what it actually guarantees is the first step to understanding what you own.
The manufacturer's warranty. Inside that lifetime coverage are the specific terms CertainTeed stands behind. Defects in the materials and manufacturing are covered for 25 years, and CertainTeed's 10-year SureStart protection covers 100% of material and labor costs if a genuine defect appears during those early years — the window when one is most likely to surface. Algae streaking, the black staining that ages a roof cosmetically, is covered for 10 to 15 years depending on the product. The manufacturer's warranty is also transferable to a buyer if you sell, subject to CertainTeed's transfer terms — real value at resale. What it does not cover is how the roof was installed; that's the next warranty's job.

Workmanship Warranty
Covers installation errors — the single most common cause of roof failure, and the part entirely within our control. The local standard is around five years; ours is ten, in writing, and honored by the same local team that installed your roof rather than a national call center.
Manufacturer Warranty
Covers defects in the shingles themselves. CertainTeed Landmark carries lifetime limited coverage — 25 years on materials and manufacturing defects, with a 10-year SureStart period of 100% material-and-labor protection during the years a genuine defect is most likely to surface.
Algae & Wind Coverage
Real, product-specific protection spelled out in the warranty: 10–15 year resistance to the black algae streaking that ages a roof cosmetically, plus wind ratings from 110 up to 160 mph depending on the product and how it's installed. We install to the spec that keeps those ratings valid.
The Solar Clause
Most roof warranties quietly die the moment solar panels go on. RuFR's workmanship warranty survives a detach and reset, and CertainTeed's manufacturer warranty does too — because we coordinate the roof and solar work with our partner WNC SolarSquad instead of letting an outside crew void your coverage.
Transferability
A roof warranty you can hand to a buyer is real money at resale. CertainTeed's warranty includes transfer provisions (a fee and deadline may apply), and we walk your buyer through the RuFR workmanship warranty at closing — so the coverage follows the house instead of ending with your ownership.
