Most roof installation failures aren't the shingles — they're everything under and around them. Here is what a manufacturer-spec install actually involves.
Ice & Water Shield
At code minimum plus every penetration, roof-to-wall transition, and known leak zone. Mountain weather doesn't respect code minimums, so neither do we.
Synthetic Underlayment
Fastened with cap roofing nails, never staples — 100% waterproof, vapor-permeable so your deck can breathe, and high-grip for crew safety on steep WNC pitches.
Balanced Ventilation
Ridge, intake, and exhaust matched to your attic's actual airflow needs — because trapped heat from below kills shingles years early.
Flashing Done Properly
Step and counter-flashing at every wall and chimney — plus drip edge around the entire perimeter of your roof, which we can't stress the importance of enough. It's the single biggest difference between a 10-year roof and a 30-year roof.
Decking Inspected First
Rot and sagging documented, photographed, and repaired before anything goes over it — every time. Shingles have to be fastened to a solid "nailable surface" to be covered under warranty by us and the manufacturer, so we will NOT install a second or third layer of shingles, or metal over a shingle roof, without 100% confidence the decking is in good shape.
The Warranty
Every roof replacement qualifies for a 10-year labor warranty from RuFR, with materials and manufacturing defects covered for 25 years. You'll also get a 10–15 year guarantee against algae streaking — something you see on a lot of roofs in an Appalachian temperate rainforest like Western North Carolina.

1. Free assessment & design talk
Roof measured, options explained, and a written estimate — materials, timeline, and exactly what goes under the shingles. No pressure, no mystery line items.
2. Material selection
CertainTeed Landmark and Landmark PRO are our standard — plus synthetic cedar shake and slate looks (Presidential Shake, Grand Manor, Belmont, and Highland Slate) and standing-seam metal cut to length. GAF and Owens Corning available on request.
3. Installation day
Most roof installations finish in a single day. Landscaping protected, trash swept throughout, and the site left cleaner than we found it. We'll also come back for a final trash and nail sweep during the walkthrough with the homeowner.
4. Final walkthrough
One last visit from your project manager, usually 24–72 hours after the job is completed, to triple-check that every detail was done to our standards, make sure the homeowner is happy, and walk the property one more time for any trash or nails that might have been missed.
